School District #60 is one of the three largest in the province and takes in Fort St John, Taylor, Hudson's Hope, Wonowon, Prespatou and several rural communities and schools, and a vast area bordered to the west by Williston Lake.

Programs:
The School District challenges, encourages and supports all the learners to be responsible for developing their abilities with respect for self, others and the environment. Our modern schools are equipped with the latest audio-visual/communications technologies and deliver modern, dynamic programs to meet the needs of all students.

Music and the Arts:
Each year, the schools take part in science fairs, writing conferences, speech contests and musical productions. Their district band programs support three levels: beginners - elementary, junior band - grade 7-9, and senior band - grades 10 and up. The Musical Arts program at the high school involves pit orchestra, chorus, singing, dancing, acting, lighting, sound, and stage crews.

Sports:
Energy is the key ingredient in the school sports programs. Activities are seasonal and include cross-country running, soccer, gymnastics in the fall season: basketball, badminton, wrestling and curling in the winter: and rugby, track and field, golf and rodeo in the spring. Under the care of skilled coaches, student athletes learn dedication, sharing, goal-setting and sportsmanship.

Math and Sciences:
School District #60 has qualified 27 students over the past seven years to attend the Shad Valley Program for top Canadian Math/Science students. The District has also developed math exam testing software that students can use to practice for final exams at the high school level.

Special Services:
Special services offered by School District #60 include two alternate schools, a school psychologist, two speech-language pathologists, a physiotherapist, the Northern BC Distance Education School as well as programs for First Nations, French Immersion and Open Learning students.

Correspondence:
A staff of five teachers, 13 contract markets, a principal and five secretaries provide a personal and quick distant education service to students. Some students are adults achieving graduation.

French Immersion:
Early and late French Immersion programs are well established. Students in this program travel on exchanges to France and Quebec. French Immersion Programs are offered at École F.S.J. Central for K-7; at Bert Bowes for 8-10 and at North Peace Secondary School for 11-12.

Staff:
A wealth of talented teachers and administrators make this a fortunate district. Equally important are the support staff including clerical staff, library clerks, bus drivers, crossing guards, custodians, bus attendants, monitors, teaching assistants, equipment repair and maintenance people, groundskeepers, schools board office personnel, and those in the special service department and the correspondence school.
